Regional energy strategies for agency founders (Zagreb, Karlovac, Krapina-zagorje county and the City of Zagreb)

First Regional energy strategy for Krapina-Zagorje county was developed in February 2009 after which followed the adoption of Strategies for both Zagreb and Karlovac County at the assembly sessions. Development of county energy strategies and a study under the name of Opportunities for using renewable energy sources in Zagreb helped to facilitate and accelerate the decision making process relevant to energy sector based on the principles of sustainability, environmental protection, energy efficiency and renewable energy consumption.

Project goals:

• Proposing an effective way for successful economic and energy development based on actual energy situation in the counties;
• Preparing a specific plan on how to optimally use available resources and increase the use of renewable energy sources in the City of Zagreb;
• Developing a concept for counties on how to achieve a sustainable growth in order to protect human and nature resources;
• Encouraging increased use of renewable energy resources;
• Supporting the efficient use of energy in all sectors of society: building sector, traffic, industry, agriculture etc.
• Compliance with institutional and legislative framework on county, regional, national and EU level.

Activities within the project:

• Regional energy strategies were developed for Zagreb, Karlovac, Krapina-Zagorje county by the Agency;
• A study under the name of Opportunities for using renewable energy sources in Zagreb was created for the City of Zagreb.
