Biomass district heating system in Pokupsko municipality

Pokupsko is a municipality in the southern part of Zagreb county. Administrative area of Pokupsko includes 14 settlements with a population of 2.492 inhabitants. The center of Pokupsko has a total of 69 residential and commercial buildings. Larger buildings are heated with light destillate oil while residential buildings are using either light destillate oil or firewood. The power of biomass boiler is adjusted to meet the needs of existing heat energy consumption. The heating network is designed in a way that after the completion new business users will be able to attach to the heating network.

 

Project goals:

  • Replacing fossil fuels with renewable sources of energy as a prerequisite for sustainable development;
  • Improving the life quality of local residents;
  • Energy independence in the community based on the exploitation of biomass within the Pokupsko community for heating purposes of the settlement;
  • Creating new jobs (mainly through the exploitation of private forests in the area of the municipality for the production of fuel for biomass boiler).

 

Activities within the project:

  • Creation of business plan for Pokupsko municipality biomass heating system;
  • Project was applied and positively evaluated by the the Fund for Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency;
  • Providing consulting services.
