Zagreb Energy Week

North-west Croatia Regional Energy Agency and City of Zagreb - City office for energetics, environment protection and sustainable development organized from 10^th-16^th of May 2010. first Zagreb Energy Week.

Project goals:

With the message Development we don't want to stop, but pollution we can, the whole week was full of events related to energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. The programme was conducted in kindergartens, primary and secondary schools in City of Zagreb, faculties, while part of the programme was also conducted by Croatian Commerce Chamber, craftsman of the City of Zagreb, specialized organisations and organisations for civil society. In total 27 different events were organized in which not only experts were involved but also city citizens.

Activities within the project:

• In kindergartens and primary schools of the City of Zagreb workshops and lectures regarding the importance of energy were organized thus showing how each of us can contribute to its rational use and protection of the environment. In secondary schools an educational film was presented regarding energy efficiency, use of renewable energy and environmentally friendly fuels.
• On six faculties (Faculty of Chemical Engineering and technology, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Shipbuilding, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, Faculty of Forestry, Faculty of Architecture and Faculty of Civil Engineering) there were organized panel discussions with topic Development we don't want to stop, but pollution we can which attracted numerous foreign and experts from Croatia who introduced new technologies to the students in the field of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources.
• Special event during Zagreb energy week was the presentation of the Covenenat of mayors initiative in the Zagreb City hall. The presentation gathered more than 100 Croatian mayors and as a highlight of the event a Memorandum of Croatian energy agencies was signed as a key founding document of regional cooperation in energy sector.
• The central event of the Zagreb energy week was held on 15^th of May 2010 at Jelačić square where companies, entrepreneurs and specialized organizations related to energy performed demonstrations of their products and work programmes. The event was also accompanied by drawings and presentations related to ecology and energy created by school and preschool children. Awards for the best drawings were organized as well as other promotional activities.
